3b - Getting an Idea of Basic Timing Continued…
The most obvious basic finger picking pattern choice for an accompaniment to a 3/4 tune or song is the Forward & Backward Roll (T 1 2 3 2 1)

In reality T 1 2 3 2 1 Pick could be called a 6/8 Timing, two lots of 3's together, see the previous diagram 2

So the Forward & Backward Roll can be used with the 3/4 or 6/8 Time Signature as a basic accompaniment to a tune or song

This is just the gist (a quick view) of basic timing for finger picking

The idea for picking, is to be able to play a variation of accompaniment patterns as and when needed, this relies a lot on feel and as you progress you will see how variations of patterns alter the feel of a bar of music

The next Example below is one such variation, a Pick Pattern for the House of the Rising Sun, it is a variation of the Forward & Backward Roll in a 6/8 Time - shown below
