Rules number 4 and 5

Do Ing and Experiment and use your Imagination

Finally experiment and use your imagination, try making your own finger picking patterns, try different chords together, use your ear and have fun.

Remember learning an instrument is not a race, it is for your own experience and pleasure.  You develop at your own speed, but if you only ever play just three chords, try to play them well

Remember the one reason that most people fail to achieve the finger picking   standard they would like is quite simply because they do not practise the   patterns enough.

  The key here is Repetition

The patterns need to become spontaneous, automatic, highly developed Finger Memory.

You need a variety of useful patterns that help develop the finger mechanics across the board.

(In the Tablature section  there are some very good exercises to start you off)

As I said before the ultimate aim I believe is that you can play ideas you hear for yourself almost instantly because your fingers know how to find the sound you are looking for.

This comes from repetition of the finger patterns and of course experience in playing.
